SML Pavilion

The latest area events venue is gearing up for a soft opening on October 1st! If you've been driving by Moneta Town Center over the past few months you may have noticed some excavation underway, a huge white tent going up, and general sprucing of the grounds between the businesses and Route 122. This complex, a vast majority of which is thanks to the generosity of George Aznavorian, has been christened: The Smith Mountain Lake Pavilion. “By a non-profit, for non-profits” is their major aim, says volunteer Director Fred Sylvester. They have already partnered with several well-known community fixtures such as: Good Neighbors, the Moneta Fire Department, and LCM. By providing the venue free of charge to these and other interested non-profits, they hope to use their event roster to help raise funds to give back to the people of SML. The non-profits, in exchange, will provide the volunteer manpower to keep events running smoothly. The community benefits both from the wonderful shows, and the donations being made to bolster so many good causes. Everybody wins! This year there will be three opportunities to check out what the venue is all about. First is their soft opening on October 1st featuring a ribbon cutting at noon, and then a community jam session from 1-4pm. Fred wants to encourage everyone to bring their instruments and voices along so that you can enjoy a wonderful time together breaking in the stage! October 23rd is slated for a grand Oktoberfest celebration including an authentic German band and loads of fun German-inspired games/competitions. November 19th will be the finale for their 2022 season as they host a Holiday Bazaar. It promises to be a wonderful place to shop local for all of your holiday gifts. If you are an interested vendor, they are still accepting applications, which you can find HERE. Next year they aim to host between 20-30 events ranging from concerts to festivals to simple community gatherings. A summer music series is also on the docket, along with free family movie nights sponsored by Bedford Co. Parks and Rec. Make sure you help spread the word about this wonderful new addition to our community!
