SML Charity Home Tour Insider's Guide

The ever-anticipated Charity Home Tour is this weekend!!! Tickets are still available if you haven't already secured yours. Andie Smarrelli, longtime attendee and member of the Charity Home Tour Board, has put together an "Insider's Guide" to help you navigate the weekend with ease. Take it away, Andie!

1. Get the Charity Home Tour Guide in advance. This guide is a wonderful way to plan your tour route before you head out! The Tour Guides are available at most of the local businesses that carry The Laker magazine, the SML Visitor's Center, and any of the homes during Tour Weekend. You can also download the guide HERE.

There are individual pages devoted to:

  • Directions by water

  • Directions by land

  • Official rest stops

2. Use the Tour Guide to take notes. The Tour Guide contains photos and descriptions of each home. Since no photos are allowed inside, I always keep a pen in my car so that I can write down some notes and highlights I'd like to remember from the home I just visited! 3. If you plan on having lunch around the lake, see if you can call ahead for reservations. There will be many out-of-town visitors here and calling ahead may help you avoid waiting so long for a table! 4. Take a screenshot or print out your ticket ahead of time so that check-in at each home is a breeze.

5. You will be wearing provided booties (shoe covers) as you walk through each home, so

make sure you choose footwear that they can easily slip over!

6. Lastly, I like to keep an umbrella, snacks, water, and sunscreen in my car to be prepared for any unexpected weather and in case I need an energy boost. PLEASE NOTE: This year, a few of the homes will be having a “drop zone” available for those arriving by boat. If you are typically ferried around to the various homes by a designated driver, this is perfect for you! Look for signs on the docks to direct you to the area where the touring members of the party can safely disembark their boat and then the captain can take it back “out to sea” to wait. It's always a good idea to plan to visit some homes by land, and some by water in order to reduce boat traffic lines. Thanks so much, Andie, for these great tips. I can't wait to see the homes! The SML Charity Home Tour takes place October 6-8, 2023. You can purchase your tickets online, in person at the SML Visitor's Center, or at any of the homes during the weekend of the tour. Grab yours before Friday to save $5 per ticket!
