Your Local Library

One of my favorite community resources has always been the public library. I remember when a bright shiny new one was built in our little town (including a coffee shop/cafe) and it quickly became my go-to spot for catching up with friends. When we lived within walking distance from one in Grandin Village, a regular me-time jaunt would include holing up in the fireplace room on a comfy leather chair and browsing through their endless supply of cookbooks for menu inspiration.
Most everyone knows about the free book, movie, and puzzle-lending services available through the library system, but also available are public computers, document scanners, fax machines, genealogy research tools, and a notary public.
The branches offer meeting rooms that are available to reserve for free - often with tables and chairs included (I take advantage of this for our Puzzle Swaps)!
And whilst you're surely familiar with “Story Times” for the wee-ones, have you seen that the events calendar is full of such things as: learning a new craft (lotion making, designing a wreath, creating a candleholder…), computer software/cellphone/cybersecurity classes, clubs that are open to all (including chess, creative writing, and Lego meet-ups), cooking demonstrations, informative lectures, Thai Chi… there is SO much happening at our libraries! One that all book-loving-introverts should try at least once, is attending a Silent Book Club.
Whether you're looking for something to do by yourself, hoping to entertain the kiddos during the summer months, or wanting to plan a creative friend date, check out the latest local offerings, and get signed up now - the classes often fill quickly!
