Dorothy McIntyre has spent over a decade successfully running the Forest Farmers Market in Forest, VA. Now that she has recently become a resident of SML, she's felt demand building for a market that's anchored over on the eastern side of the lake. With the recent influx of new restaurants and the addition of the SML Pavilion to Downtown Moneta, it seemed like the perfect time and place to add this artisan shopping venue to the growing town hub. For their first year, the Moneta Farmers Market will operate from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Hours will be on Wednesday afternoons from 3-7pm. This is the ideal time of day for commuters headed home to stop and shop, or for evening diners to pick up their weekly produce before heading into one of the wonderful restaurants the downtown area has to offer. Dorothy makes a point to say that this will be run as a 100% producer market. Meaning: everything being sold will have been grown, raised, or made by local farmers and artisans (no re-saling or goods from auction). You can expect the usual fare of: meats, produce, eggs, honey, baked items, and various handmade arts offered by a balance of both regular and guest vendors. If you are interested in signing up to sell your wares, she is still accepting applications and would be happy to chat either via phone: 434.665.5475 or e-mail: monetafarmersmarket@gmail.com For everybody else, mark your calendars for May 31st and make plans to head over to support the newest market in town!
