Pawsitively Purrfect | Mobile Grooming SML

Mobile services are becoming more and more common these days - and why should our four-legged friends be left out of the convenience?

Convenience aside though, having your groomer come to you can turn some dog's experience with their routine coat maintenance completely around. Especially those with severe anxiety surrounding car rides, pets who suffer from motion sickness, and those who don't do well around other animals.

Allyson Clark is the groomer behind Pawsitively Purrfect: a full-service salon that she runs out of her self-contained, well-appointed service van. Though she has over 30 years of experience as a groomer, her love for animals started well before she ever picked up a pair of shears. As a young girl, she was always the one bringing home strays and wanting to rescue allll the furbabies. Initially, she thought she might turn that love into a career as a vet. But when she was 15, her first job became a post at a local kennel where the owner bred show Poodles. She was tasked with learning to shave them down, and instantly her boss recognized a natural talent for working with the clippers. She had “the touch”!

Fast-forward through many, many apprenticeships working with all kinds of different show breeds. Eventually making the move over to more relaxed pet-style cuts. Each opportunity taught her a new tip, trick, or skill. She had the chance to work at a variety of locations: veterinary offices, pet stores, even opening her own brick and mortar salon, but they were all too fast-moving for the care and attention that she longed to provide to each client.

One year Allyson decided to pull up stakes from fast-paced California and move to the Hawaiian Islands where she gave mobile grooming a try. Though she started building her client base by working out of her car, she could tell right away that this business model was going to be a great fit for her. Soon she was able to invest in her first salon on wheels. Finally! The perfect way to give each and every customer the personal touch they deserved.

But how did she make the move from living in the islands to calling southwestern Virginia home? You might say her dog had a pretty big hand (paw) in it. While in HI she began breeding a small line of English Bulldogs. Having known of a very reputable breeder based here in Franklin County, she chose to add one of the females from his recent litter to her own line. When the time came, her pup was hand delivered by the breeder himself…and the rest, as they say, is history. They hit it off right away, and Allyson soon found herself headed back to live on the mainland. This all happened during COVID and though she feels like she is still getting to know the area, it's sure to feel like home in no time. She is an avid hiker and boater, and loves being surrounded by Virginia's beautiful wide-open spaces.
